Aerial Cinematographer
Aerial
cinematographers assist in telling a story or selling a product through visuals
that involve aerial footage. Aerial Cinematographers photograph air to air and
air to ground sequences for commercials, television episodes, or movies. He
or she works with the aerial director to decide what camera to use, lenses,
filters, etc. They use specialized equipment that is mounted on an aircraft.
The aerial cinematographer works with an aerial unit. They may work with a large
unit made up of several people such as an aerial unit director or an aerial
camera assistant. On the other hand, an aerial cinematographer may work with
only a few people depending on the scale of the shoot.
Aerial cinematographers often begin as assistants to learn the basics. They
also begin by taking still photos and making short movies. There are several
film schools across the United States and many different organizations that
can provide more specific information.
